our goal at lakeview youth is to be the sycamore tree... helping others encounter Jesus. think about the story of zaccheaus & Jesus in luke ch. 19... what was the purpose of the sycamore tree? to help zaccheaus get above the distraction (the crowd) that was keeping him from seeing Jesus. in the story that's recorded, we see 4 elements at work: 1] Jesus: the Savior seeking the sinner. Jesus was coming through town and comes upon zaccheaus (who had climbed a tree to see Him). closing out the story, Jesus tells everyone that the reason He came was to "seek and to save that which was lost". so, we see Jesus here being a Savior seeking a sinner. 2] zaccheaus: the sinner seeking the Savior. zaccheaus was a tax collector (not very well liked by the jewish community). when he heard that Jesus was coming he sought to see Him. well.... he was short, and the crowd blocked his view. so he goes and finds a sycamore tree to climb that he might see Jesus. and... he does. so we see that zaccheaus was the sinner seeking the Savior. 3] the crowd: it was the distraction keeping the sinner from encountering the Savior. the Bible says that satan will "veil the eyes" of those who don't know Jesus from seeing the gospel. the crowd was trying to keep zaccheaus from seeing Jesus. yet, he still wanted to see Jesus enough that he looked for help. 4] the sycamore tree: the earthly element helping the sinner encounter the Savior. thank God for the sycamore tree and its availablity! the sycamore tree was there to help zaccheaus move beyond the distraction to see the Savior he wanted to meet. that is what we want to do at lakeview.... help others get to a place where they can encounter Jesus. where are you in your story? regardless of where you are, there is a Savior, Jesus, who is seeking after you. are you a zaccheaus who is seeking Him too? are you hindered though by "roadblocks" to keep you from seeking Him? are you climbing any "trees" to help you get to a place where you could see Him better? we all are on this journey at some point in time. won't you be like zaccheaus and see who Jesus is so that "salvation may come to your house today"? won't you be like the sycamore tree and help those around you see Jesus? won't you come and climb with us to encounter the One who seeks to have an encounter with you? click here to hear more about this Jesus
